Alhambra Ornament
Original Drawing on Strathmore Series 400 Drawing Paper
This is a beautiful ornament on a strange building - the Palacio de Carlos V (also called the Alhambra Museum). In 1527, Charles V commissioned this Renaissance-style palace to be built on the grounds of the Alhambra. The unfinished building sits awkwardly close to its neighbors in a style that clashes with everything around it. On the upside, there are some handsome details, this drawing depicting one of them - a lion’s head holding a decorative ring. Back in the day, visitors tied their horses to these rings.
